The STC-3000 is a very popular programable digital thermostat used in many applications from computers to wildcrafting essential oils and everything in between. For all its popularity though it can be frustratingly hard to find out how to program the dam thing.

The STC-3000 is both a thermostat and controller it works for either heating or cooling and is often a go to choice for the DIYer seeking a reliable temperature controller on a budget. So whether your trying to cool your gaming computer or heating up the element in your beer wort boiling pot this inexpensive unit will take care of business.

There are sites online that tell you they have the answer but you soon realize they are talking about a model or style completely different to the one you purchased.
This version of the STC-3000 is 100 to 220 volt 10 amp meaning it can be used on both 120v or 220volt power sources, as long as the load required voltage matches the voltage powering the unit.

The STC-3000 also comes in 12 and 24volt versions so make sure you know what you are purchasing or have before wiring it up for example if you are using it for a gaming computer you may want a 12-24 volt model as apposed to heating water with a 220v high density element.

All programing have timeout features so you need to be ready to make the changes fairly quickly or you will need to reenter the programing mode.

To start you need to unlock the unit first this is done my pressing and holding the lock/ok button for about 5 seconds or until it beeps and the lock icon disappears off the screen.

Most of the buttons do not need a lot of pressure to work, in fact most often a light swipe is better than a swipe you will know pretty quick which ones work by light swipe and which need a bit more pressure.

Ok you are ready to program the STC-3000


Setting:
After the temperature controller is connected the power, it displays the actual temperature, and you can press the key SET, the screen will flash, then press the key UP and DOWN to adjust the temperature.

Press the key SET for 5 seconds to enter the system settings . Then press the key SET to return after accomplishing the setting. When the temperature controller is under normal working mode, pressing and holding the RST key for up to 30 seconds will shut down the unit.


P0: Working Mode
If it’s used for heating , it should be set to the Mode “H”, if used for cooling then it should be set to the Mode “C”.


P1: Return Difference Setting
The return difference is the value that it works again after the temperature controller reaches the setting temperature to stop working.
the time between reaching your set point and turning on to bring the temp back to that set point, so for example you do not have a fan or air conditioner kicking on every 10 seconds you could set it for every 10 minutes etc.


P2-P3: Setting Limits
Under the normal state, the thermostat setting range is -55℃~120℃. If you do not need so large range, you can use this function to shorten the range of setting value . If P2 is set to 50°C, P3 is set to 20°C, so the setting range of temperature just can be set from 20℃ to 50℃. So say you do not need to know if its 120 deg you can set it to only read as high as 50 deg etc


P4: Temperature Correction
If there is deviation of the measured temperature and the actual temperature ,you can use this function.


P5: Delay Start
This function is generally used for the cooling of the refrigeration compressor, if you purchase the temperature controller for the refrigerator or freezer so this value must be set, according to return to the size of the pressure of a compressor, Generally it is set for 3-6 minutes, if it is not for controlling compressor or do not need the delay function, this value is set to “0”.

Wiring the STC-3000 is very simple, it requires a power source in 120 volt or 240 volt. You need to run a jumper wire from the right hand connection on the left of the unit over to the left hand connection on the right side of the unit . the other power wire is run directly to the load.

If you are unsure speak to someone with the necessary knowledge and experience so you do not harm yourself or the thermostat.



Alternative programing instructions: There seems to be multiple versions of the same models so I’ve included alternative instructions in case someone needs them.

P0:Setting startup temperature Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, the default display is “P0”, press “SET” key again, the current startup temperature will be showed, setting the startup temperature you want by pressing the up and down keys.

P1:Setting stopping temperature Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, the default display is “P0”, press the up and down keys to change it to be P1, Press the “SET” key again, the current stopping temperature will be showed, setting the stopped temperature you want by pressing the up and down keys.

P2:Setting the temperature calibration Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, the default display is “P0”, press the up and down keys to change it to be P2, then press the “SET” key again, setting the calibration temperature you want by pressing the up and down keys. For example: in setting, if the detected temperature is 0.5 ℉ higher than the actual temperature , the calibration temperature should be set is -0.5 ℉; If the detected temperature is 1 ℉ lower than the actual temperature , the calibration temperature should be set is 1 ℉. Testing temperature +/- calibration temperature = actual temperature.

P3:Setting the delay start Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, the default display is “P0”, press the up and down keys to change it to be P3, then press the “SET” key again, setting the delay time you want by pressing the up and down keys(in minutes). Normally, delay start used for compressor refrigeration, if used for refrigeration equipment, the should be reset, normally, we set the to be 3 to 6 minutes based on the compressor back pressure size, if you don’t used it to control the compressor or don’t need the delay function, skipping this

Setting way of heating mode
Setting notice: starting temperature P0 < stopping temperature P1 (the system will judge that the working mode being to the heating mode automatically) Way of setting up Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, according to set the P0 to set the starting temperature, according to set the P1 to set the stopping temperature. For example: Control the water heater, stop heating when the temperature reaches to 140 ℉, heating again when the temperature down to 100 ℉, check the setting step as below: 1. Making sure the working mode is the heating mode, then starting temperature P0 < stopping temperature P1 2. Press “SET” key to enter to the menu, selecting the P0 and press “SET” key, then set the P0 to 100℉ 3. Press “SET” key to enter to the menu, selecting the P1 and press the “SET” key, then set the P1 to 140℉ Setting way of refrigeration mode Setting notice: starting temperature P0 > stopping temperature P1 (the system will judge that the working mode being to the refrigeration mode automatically)

Way of setting up
Press the “SET” key to enter to the internal menu, according to set the P0 to set the starting temperature, according to set the P1 to set the stopping temperature.

For example:
Control the refrigerator, stopping when the temperature down to 77℉, starting refrigerator again when the temperature up to 86℉, check the setting ways as below: 1. Making sure the working mode is the refrigeration mode, then starting temperature P0 > stopping temperature P1 2. Press “SET” key to enter to the menu, selecting the P0 and press the “SET” key, then set the P0 to 86℉ 3. Press “SET” key to enter to the menu, selecting the P1 and press the “SET” key, then set the P1 to 77 ℉

Important Notice:
When setting the heating mode, if the set temperature is reversed accidentally, the output indicator will not be on, and the load will not work. If this happens after setting, you can check whether the set temperature is wrong
